Exus Renewables announces long-term Power Purchase Agreement (PPA) with Google for Spanish wind farm
10-year PPA for Cascante wind farm supplying clean wind power to support Google’s operations in Spain and Google’s 24/7 carbon-free energy goal
Exus Renewables, a global independent power producer (IPP) and leader in renewable energy development and asset management, has announced a long-term Power Purchase Agreement (PPA) with Google to supply clean energy from the Cascante wind project in Navarra, Spain.
The agreement not only supports Google’s wider sustainability ambitions but also marks a significant milestone in Exus' transition to a leading IPP and provider of clean energy to data centres across Europe.
Under the 10-year PPA, Exus will provide Google's Spanish operations with 35MW renewable electricity from the 51MW Cascante wind farm, reinforcing its commitment to sustainable energy procurement in Europe.
Laurent Jouvin, Director of Operations and Energy Management at Exus Renewables, said: “Exus Renewables and Google are deeply committed to decarbonising Europe’s economy. Through this partnership, we will be able to fast-track Spain’s renewable energy transition and enable Google to power its operations with clean, sustainable energy while mitigating energy price volatility.”
The PPA will help advance Google’s 24/7 carbon-free energy goals and support the goal to reach net-zero emissions across all of Google’s operations and value chain.
This agreement was facilitated through LEAP™ (LevelTen Energy’s Accelerated Process), which was co-developed by Google and LevelTen Energy to make sourcing and executing clean energy PPAs more efficient, and contributes to the company’s ambitious 2030 goal to run on 24/7 carbon-free energy (CFE) on every grid where it operates.
“As we advance our goal to operate on clean energy every hour of every day by 2030, we are always looking for opportunities to accelerate the delivery of new affordable, reliable, clean power to the grid,” said Will Conkling, Director Energy Commercial Structuring at Google. “Using our scalable procurement approach, we’ve been able to collaborate efficiently with Exus Renewables and support our 24/7 carbon-free energy progress in Spain.”
Under the National Energy and Climate Plan (NECP), Spain has made a commitment to reaching 81% renewable energy electricity by 2030. Wind is a key part of that plan, and the Cascante wind farm will play an important role in approaching this critical milestone. The Cascante wind farm project is expected to generate over 136GWh of clean electricity annually –enough to power more than 41,000 households – while preventing the emission of nearly 17,000 metric tonnes of CO₂ each year.
